Yoga props are used in Iyengar yoga to help make
yoga poses (asana) more comfortable and accessible for
students at all levels of flexibility and fitness. Yoga props are great teachers for alignment, balance , stretching, holding poses,
injury recovery, and mind/body awareness.
Blanket are our most versatile Props. Any Twin Bed size blanket will work. Wool blankets provide the best support and are easy to fold. If purchasing I recommend Hugger Mugger.
Blocks provide firm support but also need to be comfortable at the same time. 3" Foam blocks that have a center stripe provide some cush and wonderful support. They will stay put on a sticky mat. If purchasing I recommend Hugger Mugger.
Straps help us bind poses so that parts of our body can comfortably relax. They help us extend deeper into poses. A 10' strap will provide the most flexible use. A necktie or bathrobe tie work in a pinch. If purchasing I recommend Hugger Mugger.
Sticky mats provide comfortable support and extension of the body. This prop is a must. It allows us to safely practice most yoga poses. If purchasing I recommend Jade Yoga. This mat is pricy. I like it because it is naturally sourced and recyclable.
